Invisalign

Need braces but worry about the effect that ‘metal mouth’ may have on your career or relationships? Invisalign can be the solution you’re looking for. As the name suggests, these molds for correcting your teeth are nearly invisible, and they’re removable.

Not really braces in the traditional sense, Invisalign treatments are done with a series of clear plastic forms called aligner trays that are worn in order over a period of time, usually one to two years. These molds can be removed to brush and floss your teeth, as well as for eating certain foods where the molds would make biting into it difficult. They can also be removed for important business meetings or a romantic date with that someone special.

Invisalign aligner trays should be worn for 22 hours per day.

Preparation

If your teeth are crowded, some may need to be removed for effective treatment, to allow room for the remaining teeth to straighten. This is not unusual and is often the case with traditional braces as well. Often we’ll remove wisdom teeth as they create a lot of extra room, and they can be removed without impacting your bite or appearance.

Once there is sufficient room in your mouth for your teeth to straighten properly, we’ll make molds of your teeth. In addition, we’ll take detailed X-rays and photographs of your teeth and jaw. All this information will be used to create successive aligner trays that will gradually straighten your teeth.

The Process

Visits to our office will be every 4 – 6 weeks to be sure that your teeth are straightening as they should. Adjustments to your trays may be necessary. The trays themselves are generally changed every 2 weeks, and we’ll supply you with the trays you’ll need until your next visit.

Cost

Invisalign treatments are comparable in cost to regular braces, or may even cost less in some cases.

Home Care

Good oral hygiene throughout your treatment is essential. Major dental procedures or the loss of a tooth may result in needing to replan and remake your Invisalign trays. This will increase the cost and possibly the duration of the treatment.
